Q:

Does 3 days of withdrawal bleeding/menstruation mean she's not pregnant?

We had sex 2 - 3 weeks after her last menstruation and she had them irregularly. She took Nordette as ECP 18 hours after. 6 days after the dose, she bled heavily lasting for 3 days. She also had abdominal pains then and she said it was just like her period. I'm not sure exactly if it is her period or just the withdrawal bleeding.

Was that a sign that she's not pregnant?

Hi thanks for replying. Now, is a period to be expected a week early or late from LMP of original cycle (not counting pills)? or do we count WB as Day 1 and expect the next period after 32 days (+/- 7days due to pill)

Hi Anonymous,

You could check with her physician. But, I think she should calculate when her next period is due based on the date of her last menstrual period and the length of her menstrual cycle.

Maryann

Hi. I had my unprotected sex last October 10 (withdrawal method). I took ECP after 24 hours of the deed and the second dose was after 12 hours. Then today, I am experiencing bleeding. From what I read, this is a withdrawal bleeding. But should I consider this as the start of my period? Based on my records, my next menstrual cycle is within this week. I am quite confused and worried.

Thank you.

Hello Ms.Maryann. I had sex last Oct 4, and I took ecp 12 hrs after. I am experiencing dark discharge for 3 days starting october 13, but the amount is lesser than my normal period. does this mean that im safe? im expecting my period nextweek. I had sex on my fertile period, my last period was on sept. 22. I read about implantation bleeding and it happens a week before your period and im worried. I hope you can answer my question.

Hello abby0808,

Implantation bleeding is pink to brown spotting that occurs about six to 12 days following conception. As the fertilized egg implants in the lining of the uterus, it can cause spotting. Not all women get implantation bleeding.

An ECP can cause a delay in the start of your next period. If your period is late by more than 12 days, then test for pregnancy. For the most accurate result, test in the morning. Use the urine when you first wake up and use the bathroom.

Maryann

Hi Mary Anne,

I took Nordette as ecp a day after I had unprotected sex. 2 days after, I experienced very light brown spotting. Is it safe to assume that it worked and I shouldn't confirm with a PT?

Thanks.

I had bleedimg for 4 days , it ended on sunday. Is it possible that I will not experience my period this month ? Im expecting my period this week and the withdrawal bleeding stopped on sunday. Also, can I take a pregnancy test as early as now ?

Hi abby0808,

This bleeding was not implantation bleeding, but break through or between periods bleeding. It was triggered by taking the pill and showed that you did not become pregnant.

Your period, which is due later this month, might come on time or later. I do not see a need to take a pregnancy test.

Maryann

Hi, my girlfriend and I had unprotected intercourse. I would like to consult about her chances of getting pregnant if:
1. I only penetrated for 2 mins, nothing came out
2. She just ended her period (1 day after her last drop)
3. She took Nordette as an ECP after 24 hours
4. She got a 2 day bleeding after 5 days of drinking Nordette
5. She took a PT and signed in as negative. She took it after 2 weeks of the intercourse.

Would really like to know. We've become paranoid about it and very scared. :( Hope you can help. Thank you!

Hello Anonymous,

The bleeding which lasted two days proved that she did not become pregnant. To avoid a repeat of this, please use protection.

Maryann
