I have the same experience from time to time. I have no idea what it is but i can rule out osteoarthritis, as I recently had the knee x-rayed. My gues is those are ligaments moving because something is pulling on them.

I was recently diagnosed with a tail in my meniscus in my left knee. But tonight I've experienced a bug crawling sensation behind my right knee. What could cause this?

I'm not an expert on parasites. I'm guessing you don't have one. Shin pain is associated with trench fever. You might also have varicose vein issues. Try wearing tall compression socks up to the knee. Do you have gout or something that would increase the viscosity of the blood? Try eating lemons for the gout and stay well hydrated.

Sounds like a problem related to the nerves in your leg. Have you talked to your doctor about this? You may need to be evaluated by a neurologist.

The crawling sensation is not just in the knee. Its also below the knee near the shin. Very disturbing to me

That is a very interesting sensation. As you know, osteoarthritis is a degenerative disease in which the joint cartilage wears away. The joint can becomes stiff and swollen. It is difficult to bend or straighten your knee. The pain and swelling is worse in the morning and after a period of inactivity. I am wondering if the sensation that bugs are crawling inside your knee is how the pain and swelling are presenting. Have you mentioned this to your doctor? Maybe other readers have some suggestions to offer.
