Gross hematuria intermittently

Hi I have had 3 episodes of gross hematuria over the past 12 months, spaced out around 3-4 months. When the first episode occurred I was freaked out but after googling, I saw where it could have been the chemicals I used to clean my commode. So I wasn't concerned the second time it happened. The last time, I laughed about it to my mom and she made me tell my doctor. A urine dipstick over a 10 day period showed small to moderate levels of blood in my urine, and when my doctor spun that out further he saw "some" blood. Urine culture came back with no infection present and all other indicators on the urinalysis were within range. I have no pain, no symptoms other than extreme fatigue which started approximately around the time of the last gross hematuria. Is it possible to have episodes of gross hematuria so widely spaced and not have any other symptoms? Of course I am worried about cancer.

Dear Kessie,

Thanks for contacting EmpowHer!

It is possible, however, the fatigue you are experiencing might be a concern, and may be something to mention to your doctor. *The visible sign of hematuria is pink, red or cola-colored urine — the result of the presence of red blood cells. It takes very little blood to produce red urine, and the bleeding usually isn't painful. If you're also passing blood clots in your urine, that can be painful. Bloody urine often occurs without other signs or symptoms.*

I'm going to include this link for more information.

I hope this helps!
