Q:

Has anyone had "her Option" cryo ablation procedure done for heavy bleeding, pms, cramps. I had it done four days ago and my doctor said to expect a watery discharge for about 3 weeks. I have extremely heavy bleeding and severe cramps. Is this normal?

I had this procedure done in March of this year. I am now experiencing my 3rd period. Since the procedure my periods have been worst since the procedure. I'm hoping that this will soon be a thing of the past :(
My procedure was done in my doc office and took abt 30mins. I experience the discharge for abt 3wks but the odor for the 1st 3 days after was horrible , I'm surprised no one previously mentioned that. The odor was horrific.

Hi Anonymous,
It is completely normal to have a watery discharge that could be mixed with a little blood for a few weeks after getting cryoablation. I found a pamphlet on the American College of Gynecologists and Obstetricians website that stated this is normal, but it doesn't indicate what exactly the watery discharge is. You may want to ask your doctor.
Here is the pamphlet I found: Endometrial Ablation information pamphlet
Good luck, and let us know what you find out.

I was told by my doctor that it was the uterine lining that had "thawed" from the procedure. I assume that it thawed immediately due to my body temperature and the discharge is the scar tissue.

I wrote on January 20th about my January 11th procedure. I am happy to report that have passed my three month mark with no bleeding at all. I am so thrilled. Although I thought it was painful, the procedure was worth it. I am grateful to the doctor for takng his time and really attending to my uterus :)

Hi Anonymous,
I'm really glad you came back to give your report. It's great to learn you have had a positive experience (minus the initial pain).
Keep us posted on how you're doing long-term (come back again and update us down the road).
Thanks!
Christine

So I had the Her Option Ablation done in February of 2010 after having DNC to remove polyps. My cervix was too dilated to do the thermal ablation that I was scheduled for so ended up having this done in gyn office. I found it too be very painful, mostly due to tilted uterus and the all of the pain meds bottomed out my bp. I have to say for the first few months afterwards it wasn't too bad. All of the heavy bleeding had stopped. Periods lasted from 3-5 days.Only one sort of heavy day but not like before. However, now over a year later, I am bleeding for 5-8 days still not heavy like before but now I am having a discharge a few days afterward and then mid -cycle I have started spotting again everyday until next period. What's up with this. Appointment with Gyn next month, definitely looking for some answers. I had hoped to be one of the lucky ones that just stopped bleeding all together. I am 47 just trying to get past it all. Should mention that I have PCOS and Fibroids but supposedly the fibroids are the source of my back pain and cramps but not the bleeding.

I had the exact same experience today, D and C with hysteroscopy to remove polyp and attempted Novasure ablation. Doctor was unable to perform ablation because, as she told my husband while I was in recovery and then dashed off, my cervix was too big. I have never heard of such a thing. I've had two uncomplicated pregnancies with vaginal deliveries of average sized babies and have never been told that I have any cervical/uterine abnormalities. She suggested to him I might try another procedure in her office, which I'm assuming is Her Option since we discussed it prior to the D and C. At the time she said she preferred Novasure. In doing some research after I got home I've uncovered a lot of info which is making me think twice about attempting the Her Option, or any ablation for that matter. I will wait and see if the D and C helps with the heavy periods/clotting. I am 52 and menopause can't come soon enough, but I refuse to have hysterectomy unless it is for cancer. Feeling somewhat disappointed in my doctor since she made it sound like the D and C and Novasure would solve all my problems. I didn't go into this lightly, as one of her colleagues suggested ablation about five years ago when my periods weren't nearly as bad, but I declined when I read about the possible risk of perforation.

I have also had her option done. The doctor told me to stay on my birth control for a while. Wanting to find out if anyone has become preganant after having this procedure done. Would like to stop taking the birth control.

I had the procedure done in November 2010 and I had the watery discharge and clots for like 4 weeks and I have had 3 periods. The 1st one after the procedure was just mixed in with the watery discharge so not sure how it went, The 2nd one was spotting for 3 days and now on my 3rd one. It is was heavy on the 2nd day. I am hoping that it ends today like the 2nd one. 3 days is fine by me because I was bleeding heavy for 5 to 6 days before the procedure. So I am crossing my fingers that maybe by 6 months it will be none or maybe just spotting... I will post again in a few months.
