Q:

Has anyone had "her Option" cryo ablation procedure done for heavy bleeding, pms, cramps. I had it done four days ago and my doctor said to expect a watery discharge for about 3 weeks. I have extremely heavy bleeding and severe cramps. Is this normal?

Good luck! And yes, please come back to let us know how you're doing post-procedure.

I had the Her Option done in early Sept 2010. The clear discharge lasted about 3 weeks, and at my 4 week checkup, I had not had a period. The 2nd month I had a 4 day cycle and 7 days of lighter spotting. Then a week later began another cycle which lasted 4 days. A couple days off then 5 days of really dark discharge again. This has continued and am now 13 weeks post op. During this time, I have had sporadic sharp pains in the pelvic area. This has graduated over the past few days to what I can only describe as a constant cramping like I am about to start again, but have not had any bleeding so far. Seen my dr. a few days ago and he did a pelvic ultra sound which shows no issues. He said come back again in 4 wks if no improvement. I am still hoping all this will resolve. Anyone else had the pelvic pain issues

I had the procedure exactly one year ago. I'm still experiencing bleeding, most recently I've been bleeding for 29 days. Of the past 365 days since the procedure, I've bled most of them. Had I know this would be the outcome for me, I would not have chosen the procedure. I would love to go back to 8 days of heavy but regular periods, rather than bleeding for weeks/months at a time. My doctor says this happens to 1% of patients. What can I do?

Hi Anonymous,
Thank you for your comment, and for finding EmpowHER. Have you talked with your doctor about the bleeding you are experiencing and how much? Is your bleeding heavy? Or is it just persistent light periods? Did the doctor say what next steps are possible given your results? As you know with every surgical procedure (even in office), there is a certain amount of risk you assume. However, if you are not happy with the results, you can advocate for yourself by asking for alternative solutions, or going to see a different doctor.
Here are some resources for finding other women's experience, and articles about this procedure and other options:

Good luck and let us know how you're doing.

I have had this procedure done twice now. The last time was in May of 2010. My periods were very heavy as well. didn't seem to help much after the first one and so my doctor did the second. My period is now much lighter (although I was hoping for no period at all like some women). However, i have not read anything yet that compared to what I now seem to be experiencing. Keep in mind i am in my mid 40's so maybe a combo of early menopause, but i get my period now every 21 to 25 days. Used to be 28 on the mark before the procedure. I get it for two days(light) then it goes away totally, not even any spotting. Then about 4 days later it comes back outta no where full force again for about a day then I spot on and off for another 5 days after.. At least it is light now but sorta a pain and inconvenience with the spotting for that long.. so all in all I can say I am inconvenienced every 21 days for at least 10-12 days on and off. Has anyone had anything similar to this happen?

Hi JRussell32 - I had the procedure about 6 months ago. I am having the exact same thing you are except my cycles have always been about 25 days apart. The periods are lighter than prior to the procedure, but I have a few days off then bleeding starts again. It is frustrating and will be seeing my Dr. next week about the irregularity. I have only had the procedure done once though. I would probably do a 2nd one before giving up. Have you seen your Dr. and discussed your situation with him? Curious how you are doing now?

Hi Anonymous:
It has now been just shy of 1 year since my 2nd procedure. I am still now about 21-25 days and I still bleed for the 1st 2 days then totally stop for around 4 days. This last month it was a 5 day stoppage. on the 6th day it returned. I experience dark brown spotting then for about another 3 or 4 days. then it seems to be over. This has been consistent now every month so I guess it is what it is. It is definitely better than what I was dealing with before the 2nd procedure, I just find it to be very inconvenient to be spotting and having to wear a panty liner for that long : ( How have you been?

Hi, i just had the procedure done, this June 18 2012, for the same reason , Heavy bleeding.
Im 53, and notice that i dont bleed heavy, however, if i don't keep taking the pills (norethindorne 5 MG) that the doctor gave me, i would spot evey 4-5 days each month.
According to my reading, there should be better results after the third month there should not be ever spotting.
Still waiting for all spotting to stop.

I have put the partial hysterectomy off for a few years now, to try other things. So far nothing has worked. I also do not want to stay on meds for the rest of my cycle years and keep trying things that "may" work. At this point i am really just frustrated and want it all over with.
