She has a dark orange mucus that builds up in her nose. At night it tends to get worse. It dries up and almost crystalizes and becomes rock hard. It is very difficult to get out of her nose and seals her nostrils completely. She had difficulty drinking her bottle. She literally gasps for air through her mouth and she is starting to snore at night.
Does anyone know what this is?

Anon - You should contact your daughter's pediatrician's office for advice. Inflammation of the membranes in the nose and mucus buildup is typically an unpleasant but temporary condition. In some cases, however, there can be infections that need treatment with medication. Others just need to run their course. Children who deal with this type of condition on a frequent basis may benefit from surgery, allergy shots, or other therapy but this can only be determined on the basis of medical history and a physical exam.
Hope she is feeling better soon, and that you are too.
