HELP PLEASE! Plan B help

Me and my gf decided that we should have sex , so we did, LAST WEDNESDAY, then we realized the condom had broke after we finished, I didn't pull out because I didn't know what had happened to the condom. So after that, the following THURSDAY we went to the store and bought a plan b pill/tablet thing, she took it. A couple days later like around two days later she said her stomach was hurting a lot , which we were thinking were some of the side effects. Now it's been seven days, it's Wednesday today and she has not had her period yet which is worrying us a lot because we're still in high school and we can't afford to have a child, trust us we've learned our lesson, but my question is , should we be worried that her period ha not started, by the way her period doesn't have a pattern or anything so she doesn't know if she's missed it or if it's late , but I was just trying to get some help ASAP, - thank you

Dear Anon,

Oh that's good that she took it the next day! I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a week later :-)

I am sure she is just fine, even though her period is late. ECP (Emergency Contraception Pills) can throw her cycle off completely. Being a week late is very common.

A pregnancy test can be taken 10-14 days after the incident. She can take it on the 10th day, but it could give a false negative. Try taking the test on the 14th day. She might even get her period before then.

Dear Anon,

Thank you for visiting the EmpowHER community and sharing your question about your girlfriend and your situation.

I am sure that you are terrified and very worried.

You only have a few days to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or birth control failure. Plan B One-Step® works better the sooner you take it. It must be taken within 72 hours (3 days) of unprotected sex.

Based on what you said, did she wait 7 days to take it? If so, then it was too late. OR did you mean the next day (Which was Thursday)? If she took it within 72 hours, then most likely she's not pregnant.

Having stomach pains after taking the pill is very common-but she could have already been pregnant if she missed the 72 hour window.

Unfortunately, you guys are just going to have to wait to see if her period comes or wait another week when a pregnancy test would be accurate.

Did this answer your question?

Best,

Kristin

she took a plan b pill the following day after the whole "incident" , how long should we wait before going to buy a pregnancy test? And should I be worried that it's been a week that her period hasn't started?
