how do I know when pityriasis rosea is healing?

I was diagnosed with pityriasis rosea almost 6 weeks ago. Apparently it takes 6-8 weeks to disappear, but I keep finding new spots every time I shower, new red spots seem to pop up. The first ones I got seem to keep changing. Does anyone know what these spots are meant to look like before they just disappear?

After three months, three misdiagnosis, and two separate dermatologists I have been diagnosed with PR. I went to the tanning bed yesterday for 10 minutes to see if it helped. As a result, it seemed to make everything worse. The spots flared up and itched like crazy. Before I go back to the tanning bed today, I wanted to know if anyone else experienced this. I'm just concerned if I have a misdiagnoses that I may be making things worse.

Today I was just diagnosed with pityriasis rosea and I am curious if I was the only one who happen to get this after making dramatic changes to their diet. The past three months have cut all fast food out of my diet and 98% of what I drink is water. I recently did a parasite and bowl cleanse also. I'm kinda leaning more towards the this rash is the result of toxins leaving my body.

Please let me know if you relate.

OMG!! I did a parasite cleanse, became vegan, and recently have been drinking alkaline water with a ph of 10. I have been using other cleansing herbs to detox heavy metals and toxins out of my body. Then all of a sudden about 3 weeks ago I saw the patch on my leg. I didn't know what it was! I thought maybe it was ringworm, bug bite or something. Now I'm thinking it's a result of the toxins leaving my body too. I was itching like crazy at first but now not so much the patches are drying out but not cleared up yet.

Yes about 3 months before I was diagnosed, I drastically changed my diet and did a 2week cleanse that consisted of veggies, fruit, oatmeal, and milk. I added probiotics to this process also. Some told me I should have did skin brushing because during cleanses toxins are removed through your pores also. I had the same thought especially since my doctor stated we Are not sure why this occurs.

I wanted the steroid pills, my doc said it would heal things, but once the steroid wears off, the virus will return. He said it was best to just let it run it's course. I hope for you that isn't the case. But just wanted to let you know in case it did come back later. I had hesitated on the tanning beds, then finally did it, along with Head and Shoulders as body wash, and 2x a day I apply a mixture of coconut oil and tea tree oil to my entire body and it has helped tons!

I'm in the middle of my 5th week with Pityrusis Rosasea and my school doctor said it's be 2-3 months but my pediatrician said it would only last for 6 weeks. It kept letting worse for the first month and it's been super hot out lately so covering it up has been torture. Anywho, the begining of the forth week I started using head and shoulders shampoo and been washing my body with that (I've been scrubbing kinda hard tho, maybe I shouldn't be tho lol) and used plenty of oil and lotion afterwards! It sopped spreading after that and this week I've been lying out in the sun for a n our or two everyday and that seems to help too. The only thing I'm confused about tho is that the sun is suppose to dry it out but the shampoo and lotion are suppose to moisturizer it? So it's kind minusing the other out? So far the spots are all pretty flat and not nearly as bright red anymore! The only thing tho is after being out in the sun for so long, the spots aren't tanning underneath so I have a feeling I'm gonna have a pretty akward tan line after this haha.

This site has been an amazing source of information. I was have had PR for almost two weeks. It started with a few red spots that I thought were bug bites and then I had a friend convince me that I had fleas. I decided to go to the Doctor. He diagnoised me with PR and said that there was nothing I could do about. I have looked up images on the internet and am not sure if mine will get that bad? So far I only have spots on my stomach and its spreading up my chest. My back is still very clear, I am not sure if this is how everyone else's symptoms started or if my case is minor? Or if there even are different degrees? I will try the tanning trick and see if that does help. I do find myself waking up at night when I get to hot. The heat does increase itching. Thank you everyone for your input!

What a great website!
I'm here because I think I'm healing and I just wanted to check if it's true.
I have had PR for about 5 weeks now. I was so shocked when the doc said the condition could last several months in some cases! It's so embarrassing, so I try to cover it where visible with a scarf and I wear tops with sleeves to cover from my upper arm, too. I noticed that the more I covered myself, the further the spots had spread on my neck. But I wouldn't go out without hiding the rash so it's a devil's circle.
I went to tanning only once and I'm going again in the morning because it definitely helps. The patches have darkened a bit, but they are flat and dry, looks like drying off. Some cleared in the middle. I take food supplements as well. Since I noticed improvement, I started using a sponge to scrub the dry spots off and it seems to be good, however it definitely wouldn't have been recommended while it was still itchy and spreading. After scrubbing and shower I put sudocrem on it. By the way, I use hibiscrub to shower when I have skin problems to avoid infections. I suffer from eczema and hibiscrub has helped before.
So I do a lot of things at the same time. I'm sure tanning really helps but i don't know about the other things. I just do them all to improve my chances to recover quicker.
Good luck with your recovery!

I'm a 17 year old female currently dealing with PR. My dermatologist prescribed me a steroid cream, bath oil "slush" and UVB light therapy. i used the slush for about two weeks before I couldn't take it anymore. It didn't seem to soak into my skin and it was runny and oily and gross feeling to the point where the texture of it added to the itching. So I made my own mixture by adding the slush to a thick eucerin lotion, tea tree oil, coconut oil, and a hemp seed lotion. I've been using this mixture on my skin and it has helped so much more than the slush alone. As for the UVB treatments, they were a waste of time. I went for two weeks, my sessions started at about 30 seconds and built up to maybe 2 minutes by the time I got fed up and went back to normal tanning beds (I used tanning beds about once a week prior to getting this rash, I ran easily, get very dark with very little usage, and don't burn). At this point I've had the rash for about 3 months I think. It's now turned from raised red spots to flat, pale white spots. I'm hoping this is the beginning of the end for it, tanning appears to be helping although at first it just made the white spots contrast against my dark skin which made it look worse. Anyone who has gotten over this rash had it end like this? Hope this helped, I just want to look normal in time for summer!
