I CAME DOWN WITH BREAST CANCER 9 YEARS AGO, THEY REMOVED MY RIGHT BREAST, AND I WAS TOLD THAT I WAS CURED. OH SURE.. ALMOST 7 YEARS LATER I WAS HAVING A AWFUL PAIN IN MY SHOULDER IT KEPT ME AWAKE, AND ALL THAT FUN STUFF. I DECIDED TO HAVE A UNTRA SOUND WHEN MY OWN CANCER DR. SLUFFED IT OFF. THEY FOUND TWO SMALL SPOTS ON MY LIVER, ONE WAS 3 CM. AND THE OTHER ONE A LITTLE OVER 1 CM ..I HAVE HAD 5 CHILDREN, AND MY MOM DIED FROM CANCER AT THE AGE OF 56, AND MY SON DIED FROM STOMACH AND LIVER CANCER AT THE AGE OF 36, HE HAD A GREAT WIFE AND 2 CHILDREN AND THEY BOTH HAVE GRADUATED FROM COLLEGE. THIS WILL BE MIS SPELLED BUT HE HAD A DREADED CANCER IT IS CALLED LYOMYSARCOMA , THEY REMOVED 2/3 OF HIS STOMACH AND THAT DR. SAID THAT ONLY THE KNIFE WOULD HELP HIM. WELL HE WENT TO OTHER DR'S AND HE WAS A GINNY-PIG, THEY GAVE HIM PLATIUM CHEMO, RADIATION, AND 5 SURGERYS, BOY DID HE SUFFER. MINE3 IS SLOW GROWING SO FAR, IT A CARCANOMA, I AM ON XELODA PILLS, I DON'T WANT LIQUID CHEMO, YOU CANNOT CURE THIS CANCER, SO WHY SUFFER...I EAT VERY WELL OATMEAL EVERY MORNING, WITH BANANAS, PRUNES, BLUEBERRYS AND WALNUTS IN IT. MY BLOOD TESTS ARE GREAT, SO FAR PERFECT. I HAD A BIOSPY OF THE LIVER TO MAKE SURE THAT IT WAS CANCER, AND IT WAS. I LOOK FINE, I GET TIRED FROM THE DRUG SOMETIMES BUT I STILL DO ALOT. I WAS TAKING CARE OF MY 3 GRANDSONS TODAY SCHOOL AND COOKING AND CLEANING MY DAUGHTER HOME.

Please just be very careful with your teeth. Make sure your dentist is aware of and understands the dangers associated with Zometa and tooth extraction. I had a wisdom tooth pulled in 2008 (elective, because my dentist assured me that the stories about biphosphonids and ONJ were "media hype.") I ended up with osteonecrosis of the jaw.
I had been on Zometa from 2003 until February 2009, when the ONJ was discovered. Now my oncologist won't give me Zometa, which had been controlling my Stage IV breast-to-bone cancer very well, with minimal side effects (just some aches and pains.) Recently, I broke two ribs on the left side, and there is increased uptake at T8 on the nuclear bone scan. I'm convinced that the cancer is back, because it is no longer kept in check by the Zometa. All because I listened to my dentist, who is a jerk.

Carlene, I am so sorry to hear of your troubles and diagnosis. I have been taking Zometa for 4 years with no noticable side effects. I do get joint aches and feel on edge about 3 or 4 days after Zometa infusion. But all and all it helps. I have much more advanced bone mets and may have to back to chemo treatment soon, but so far no ill effects from Zometa.

I am so sorry this has happened to you. I have taken Zometa for 4 years with success so far. I am sorry that you do not have as close support of friends and family as you need. It has really helped me. One thing that I usually don't suggest as religion is a very personal matter, but I know helps. Jehovah's Witnesses are in your area and offer a free home Bible study. They are nice people and will come to your home free of any cost or any obligation to teach you how to use and what the Bible really teaches. It has been a blessing for me and not only have I learned to use my Bible effectively, but I also have so many supportive friends. Jehovah's Witnesses are normal people with a desire to know God and the Bible. I hope this suggestion helps you I just couldn't keep it to myself. I wish you the best G
