Hi Shirlena

Yes, once you develop osteoarthritis you usually have it for life. However, there are many interventions that can make it less painful, including the Voltaren. Physical therapy or yoga or other exercise can strengthen muscles in the area to help decrease the pain. There are injections that can be tried if the pain remains severe, and further down the line there are surgical options if you don't get relief.

This isn't to say you will need surgery, I just want you to know there are a lot of options for decreasing arthritis pain. The National Institute of Health has an info page: http://www.nih.gov/news/WordonHealth/jun2000/story03.htm, and so do we: https://www.empowher.com/condition/osteoarthritis/definition.

I hope this helps. If you have further questions, please let us know. Thank you for writing.
