Hi Anonymous,

Anytime you forget to take your pills and have sex you run the risk of unwanted pregnancy. If you read your insert that comes with your pills, it suggests using a backup method of birth control (condom, withdrawal, etc.) to provide a second level of protection in these cases. You may want to continue to use a backup method for the next seven days provided you take your pills as directed. If you find you are having difficulty remembering to take your pills, you may want to associate them with something you do every day at about the same time such as brushing your teeth, or going to bed.

Hi, so I have been on birth control for a few months now, but recently missed the first two pills in the pack because I couldn't get my perscription filled in time. Once I got it I took two pills on one day and two on the next day. I had unprotected sex 5 days after I started taking them again (but was not ejaculated into), is it possible/likely that I could be pregnant?

Hi Anonymous,
February 8, 2011 - 9:26amI believe you should be ok with how you took the pills and that the encounter was five days later, and used the withdrawal method. You may want to continue to use the withdrawal method this month just to be safe, and ensure you don't put yourself at increased risk for getting pregnant. Also you may want to be extra diligent about not forgetting to take your pills.
Good luck, and let us know how you're doing.

If you miss two pills in-a-row, it is important to follow the instructions and make up the missed pills. The instructions also say to use a backup birth control method (condom) for the following 7 days. If you had unprotected sex within those 7 days, your pill is less effective when missing doses (it is only 99% effective when taken consistently and correctly every day).
If you had bleeding after missing pills (and not making them up), it may have been breakthrough bleeding, as your body was reacting to the abrupt absence of synthetic hormones from the pills. This is a normal reaction, and you may experience another "period" during your week of inactive pills. If you do not have bleeding during this time, take a home pregnancy test to be sure. You do have an increased risk of pregnancy when missing pills.

Hi Anonymous,
January 24, 2011 - 8:11amWere you expecting your period on Sunday? Were the pills for Friday and Saturday the last active pills in your pack? If so, you should be ok. Make sure to take your pills on time going forward to keep from worrying too much. Anytime you forget to take your pills you do increase the risk of accidental pregnancy. In those cases, and regularly, you may want to use a back-up method to be sure (condom, withdrawal, spermicide, etc.).
At any time, and for an immediate answer, you may want to call your prescribing doctor and ask the nurse what you should do.

im a little bit worried.. please help...
im currently taking microgestin fe 1.5/30 and have been for over a year. im usually very good at taking each pill everyday.
i missed one on friday night, then i had unprotected sex saturday night (and he did finish inside me) along with not taking another birth control pill. how likely is it that i will be pregnant?
by the way, the reason i did not take birth control on saturday night after the sex was because i left my pack at my other home which i had left from earlier.
