I've already posted up my question here but no one answered me. I've been on the pill for my first month now. I had un protected sex on the first week on a Monday. (Im a Monday starter BTW) and on the Wednesday, Thursday and Friday I forgot my pill. Then I had those big cramps I never had before. I had a it of spotting and today I started very lightly my period. I've heard that even if you have your period and it's very light you could still be pregnant. How could I know. I would like to know if it is possible that 2 eggs could of formed in me because I decided to start my pill 2 weeks after my period stopped and I still had bits of pink spotting during the first week. And also after I had my last intercourse (unprotected) my boyfriend came into me and I started a bit of bleeding after. This is getting me worried and I told my boyfriend that I don't think I could be pregnant but all those stories of people who where on he pill and did the same thing as me and ended up pregnant scare me a bit. Could any one help me by answering those next question..... Is it bad stating the pill 2 weeks after your last day of perios? Is it still possible to be pregnant if you have a light/medium period(Im usually heavy flo) ? Is it possible that 2 eggs formed in me? Is it possible I could be pregnant if I missed 3 pills in a row after an intercourse that was unprotected and that now I've got a bit of a period start?

Jo-Annie,

Hi, and welcome to EmpowHer! Let's see if we can be of some help here.

So let me get this straight.
First I assume you had your period, which would be Day 1.
Day 14 - Monday - Pill one - had sex
Day 15 - took pill
Days 16,17 and 18 (Wed, Thu, Fri) forgot pill. Started having cramps, spotting and a period

Here's what happened here. You started taking the pill, which is hormones, in the middle of your cycle, and then you stopped. When that happened, you had breakthrough bleeding because your body reacted to the hormonal ups and downs. That cramping and bleeding was because you hadn't taken your pill for three days in a row after you'd started it.

Why did you decide to start the pill in the middle of your cycle instead of at the beginning, right after your period? Did you talk with your doctor about this?

You should start the pill when your period ends. It's not "bad" to start it later, you'll just get your hormones screwed up -- like you did -- and you'll increase your chance of ovulating before you even start your pill.

It is not possible to be pregnant if you have a light to medium period. Not at all. It is incredibly incredibly rare to have anything other than some very light implantation spotting.

Why would you think that two eggs would form based on when you begin the pill? Is this something a friend told you?

Yes, it's possible to get pregnant if you miss 3 pills in a row and have unprotected sex. Absolutely. But then if you get a period, it tells you that you were not pregnant.

I'm afraid that what you actually have right now is a very confused body that isn't sure when to have a period or when to stop having a period. It's probably best for you to just put in a call to your doctor's office and talk to the nurse and ask her or his best advice as to what to do. They may want you to start a whole new pack of pills right away, or they may want you to wait a month and let things sort themselves out.

And when you start the pill up again, try to tie it to a daily habit so you won't forget it. Set your pills next to your toothbrush, your alarm clock or something else that you do every day, and make it a habit that way. OK?

Hope someone can help me- Im on yaz and a day 1 starter (Saturday). I missed two active pills- week 1 Friday and my next day week 2 Saturday. I followed the instructions on the pamphlet for missing 2 pills.  I took two pills Sunday and then took two pills Monday and now i'm caught up. But Friday of week 2-five days after my missed pills, I had unprotected sex with my bf- what are my chances of getting pregnant? I've been on yaz for a year and half already.

Anon, you did exactly what you should have done regarding your pills. You made them up as soon as you realized that you had missed your pills, and you took two pills for two days in a row.

However, what I see on drugs.com is that you ALSO are supposed to use another form of birth control for the seven days following the missed/made-up pills. Here's what I'm referring to (scroll down until you get to where it says "What Happens If I Miss A Dose?":

http://www.drugs.com/yaz.html

So this does increase your chances, even slightly, of becoming pregnant. (Every time we miss a pill, our chances increase somewhat). But it is a slight increase. Not huge. Especially since the missed pills were so very early in your cycle.

So don't panic. Chances are there, but they are slight.

Hi my name is Jo-annie and I've been on birth control since March 22nd. I've been wondering as a question for you Alison... Could I be pregnant? Why am I wondering that? Well first I had unprotected intercourse last Monday (Monday April 5th 2010) and forgot 3 pills in a row after. This really scares me you know I am only 15 years old and my dad doesn't know I am active sexually. I missed those 3 pills on the last week of "active-pills" which scares me even more. Before that I maybe forgot it once or twice during the first two weeks but not for long because someone would remind me or I would see my pack on my counter or something like that and now I kind of lost that pack for a couple of days because I've been careless abit about it (eg: just throwing it in my room after taking it) and also two days before that intercourse I spent two days high on cannabis and extacy.. could that affect my pill? Please answer because I am very scared right now and don't know what to do.

Hi there, I have been on birth control now for roughly 2 years. This past week I missed 3 days and had sex on the third(monday I believe). I then forgot to take a pill that day and instead took it on the fourth. I do have extra pills and will be planning on taking them normally. My period has changed from end of the month to about the middle of the month. What I want to know is how high are my chances of getting pregnant?
thanks! Briana

Hi all,

I have a question as well. I was forced to miss pill 1 of a my new pack (due to being required to change pharmacies) and I took pill 1 when I normally take my pill along with pill 2. I resumed taking my pill as normal and I had sex with my boyfriend on day 5. I had only been "inactive" for 5 days (I am on YAZ and you only have 4 inactive pills). I was wondering, how possible is it that I am pregnant?

Thank you!

I have a question, too:

I have been on Microgestin Fe 1/20 for about eleven months, and it's worked well. I'm a little worried now, though - this past Sunday (April 4th) I started my pack. I took my pill as scheduled the next morning (Monday) and that night I had sex with my boyfriend without a condom or barrier method (we've been monogamous for a year and got tested for STDs and everything). I took my Tuesday pill on schedule, too, but Wednesday (my fourth pill in the first week) I took it about two hours late. My question is: does missing a pill up to 48 hours AFTER intercourse put you at risk of becoming pregnant from the last time you had sex? I've read that sperm can get you pregnant up to 48 hours after sex. Also I am worried because everything I've read says missing pills during the first week of a pack is bad. Am I at high risk for pregnancy, and should I use alternate birth control in the future?
