When should I take a pregnancy test? I missed three pills in a row, and took the first two I missed on the same day and thext day I took the third one I missed as well as another pill to "catch up" but started spotting the day I took the third missed pill. I dk why, but I assumed it was breakthrough bleeding since I recently switched to natazia so I kept taking one pill everyday until the pack was over. I've never taken my pills incorrectly especially like this, I've just been slammed with a lot of life issues this last month.
Anyway, this month on a new pack, I haven't had any breakthrough bleeding nor a period. I have had intercourse all throughout last month when I first messed up on my pills and all this month.
Can I take a pregnancy test now or wait until next month to see if I miss another period? Are the chances of me being preggo pretty high? This would be okay if I were prenant since we planned on getting me preggo after our wedding coming up in November anyway, just not exactly as panned, ha.
Thanks for reading this and for your advice.

Hi Anonymous,
May 16, 2011 - 8:15amYou can go ahead and take a pregnancy test now if you've already missed your period. It should be accurate, so if it is negative, you likely are not pregnant. It is important to use a backup method of birth control when you forget if you don't want to risk pregnancy.
Good luck with your wedding plans, and hope you get the result you truly want.

ok heres the thing. Is it possible to become pergnant during the first week of the pill (Zovia 35)? Im a sunday starter, but I figured if I continue taking the pill continually, then would I still be protected? Or would my actions during the first week still be a concern (unprotected sex twice at the beginning and middle of the week, ***in me)? And does any one know any stories of other people in my situation who did become pregnant? Thanks guys.

If this is your first week ever taking the pill, it is recommended that you use backup protection (condom) for the first 7 days of taking the birth control pill (it says this in the directions, and your gynecologist should have explained that your pill is not effective the first week).
If you have been taking your birth control pills for a few months, then every week provides the same level of protection, assuming you are using it with perfect use (taking it at the same time of day, every day).
With perfect use, your birth control pill is 99% effective at preventing pregnancy.
The birth control pill does not work retroactively, meaning, if this was the first time you have ever used the pill, and you had unprotected sex, then taking it continuously does not prevent a pregnancy that is "in the making". In other words: the pill does not work to end a pregnancy, if it is not used correctly.

I appreciate you writing back so fast!
It has been 3 years since I have been on the pills. So Im assuming this is like starting a fresh pack? Or would being on the pills for a few years previously (with the 3 year break) help my situation at all?
Now the reason why I was not able to ask my doctor who prescribed me the pills is because the person is a close family friend. And I would feel uncomfortable asking her about my situation before it happened. i.e. my parents would find out lol.
Anyways, since I was not sure if the pills would be at there full strength during the first week I did tell my boyfriend. But since guys think they are always right (lol) he thinks it would be ok and that they would be into the effect. I did start on sunday 2 days after my period. And had unprotection days 8 and 11 of my cycle.
But it would actually be ok if we did have a "little surprise" because we have been going out for 7 years, and now done college with jobs. And he just got a house. So we would be prepared if some thing did happen. We've had "the talk".
But anyways, I don't mean to take up your time here. I just wanted to let you know I wasn't fully unprepared if some thing did happen.

Hi, my name is ashley. In my second week, i missed 2 pills, so as the directions said i doubled up my pills. it also says not to have unprotected sex for 7 days after missing your 2 pills. My boyfriend ended up cumming in my a few times in those days... do you think i am pregnant? i take tri-cyclen lo, please answer as soon as you can, thank you. i have not stopped taking pills. Also i have not bled at all, but did have cramps near the beginning of catching up... also have been feeling sick in the morning, im hoping its nothing. it would be way to soon to be experiencing that right? im on my third week now. 6 days from my "expected" period.

i have been on birthcontrol for two months. i have recently got married and when we left the honeymoon left the birthcontrol. i was getting ready to start week 3 of the pills. 5 days later i had the bleeding that occurs when you stop taking the pill. it has been 3 weeks ago since that has occured i have been having some pregnancy symptoms, but im not suppose to start my period for another week and a half. could i take a pregnancy test now and it would be right or is it to soon?

Hi Anonymous,
May 5, 2011 - 8:54amYou may want to call your prescribing doctor and ask them if you should start a new pack of pills at this point, or just wait until after you get your next period to start again. You should be using a back-up method of birth control until you get your period to ensure you don't put yourself at further risk for pregnancy if you really don't want to get pregnant. A pregnancy test is most accurate if you wait until you miss your period.

Hi, Last month I skipped my placebo week and took too active sets of pills consecutively (I'm on Loestrin 1.5/30), during the beginning of my fifth week of pills (2nd week of the 2nd pack) I missed a pill but took it around mid day the next day and that days pill at my normal time that night. At the end of the 2nd pack of pills, although my period did start on time, it was much lighter than normal and lasted only 3 days. I was just wondering if this was just due to skipping a placebo week or if the it was really some type of implantation bleeding since I did have sex the day of the missed pill without extra protection (although my partner did pull out). Also I was wondering in general if you are more protected from a missed pill when taking active pills continuously, since when taking pills normally you're still protected during your period week on inactive pills since the hormones have "built up in you body" for three weeks. Is this similar to the protection you'd have missing a pill sometime in your second month of active pills?
Sorry if my questions were confusing, I just couldn't find an answer to a question like this anywhere else, and I wanted to know if I should purchase a pregnancy test, or if I'm probably fine and should just wait to see if my next period is more normal (I only plan on taking one set this time).

Hi, I hope this is the right place to put this. Sorry if it isn't.
My question is this: I was on Ortho-tri-cyclen for 3 months and always had my breakthrough bleeding during the sugar pill week but was going on vacation when my 'period' was due so decided to skip those sugar pills and go straight to a new pack in order to miss my bleeding during that time. I did skip the 'period' but had spotted bleeding at a different time during the new pack. Then I missed the last 3 active pills of that new pack, but had unprotected sex during that time but a few days later had light withdrawl bleeding from just stopping the pill, and haven't started up again due to being nervous about possibly being pregnant. Long story short, it's been 27 days since I had unprotected sex and I've yet to have a normal period but am feeling light headed but no other real symptoms of being pregnant. My periods have always been a bit all over the place as to when they come and I was told to take a HPT 19 days after unprotected sex. I did that and it was negative, but still feel I might be pregnant. Should I take another test at a later time, or just wait it out? Thank you. Hope that made even a bit of sense! :)
