I think we can help. You didn't mention that you missed any pills, just that you had started a new pack of pills, and after about day 4 of week 1, you started feeling queasy. Is that right?

One thing for sure: this is not a pregnancy sign. Even if you did get pregnant from unprotected sex (which is a possibility; more about that in a moment), you wouldn't be technically pregnant yet. If your egg was fertilized a few days ago, it takes many days (about 10 days) for the fertilized egg to travel down the fallopian tube and implant itself in the uterus, to then begin releasing enough "pregnancy hormone" to have symptoms.

So...the queasy feeling you have in your stomach may still be hormone-related, as your system is getting used to using synthetic hormones from the pill. It could also be stress, something you ate, an illness....any number of things.

Your pills probably mention that you need to use alternative form of birth control (condoms) during the first 7 days that you start using them. They have not built-up to their 99% effectiveness rate yet, so having unprotected sex does create a chance for pregnancy.

Lastly, it is a myth that women need to stop taking their pill to "clean out their system", unless of course, they are trying to become pregnant. Was this recommended to you by anyone?

Hope this answers all of your questions!

^^ I am the anonymous above. I just wanted to mention that I'm on Yaz which doesnt say to double up but says to take pills until Sunday. Also the day after I missed 2 pills I think I may have not swallowed the third all the way cuz I dry swallowed and think I spit it back up before it got to go down. So it was like missing 3 pills. =\

I was taking my first pack of pills and missed 2 pills in the third week. I'm a Sunday starter so I kept taking pills until Sunday, and started a new pack on Sunday. Usually I have a 5-7 day-long period but after missing the pills I had a short 3-4 day period and on the 2nd day had unprotected sex because I heard you can't get pregnant on your period. In the first coupld weeks, I didn't have any spotting but now I do. After reading this forum though, I got a little worried cuz I read something about your period just being a withdrawal from hormones cuz it wants to ovulate. I'm kinda confused. So my question is, is it likely that I can be pregnant after that?

I just read the Yaz patient information leaflet (available online), and you are right (from your added comment below): it says if you miss 2 light pink "active" pills in-a-row in Week 3, and you are a Sunday starter, to "keep taking one pill every day until Sunday, and then on Sunday throw out the rest of the pack and start a new pack of pills that same day". These instructions are the same if you miss 3 or more (which you are not sure if you did).

It also says "you COULD BECOME PREGNANT" if you have sex in the 7 days after you restart your pills.

Where did you hear that you can not become pregnant when on your period? I'm surprised that you read the instructions as closely as you did, but skipped over the part where it says "you MUST use another birth control method (condoms) as back-up for the 7 days after you restart your pills".

Your period will likely be irregular this month, or you may not have one, as the hormones in your pills may cause your cycle to be "off"...this is completely normal. Specifically: a period that is lighter, shorter, just "spotting" or regular...these are all normal after missing pills.

Lastly, every time you have a "period" while using birth control pills is not actually a "period" or menstrual bleeding...is is withdrawal bleeding from the hormones in your pill. This is because the first 21 days of pills contain active hormones, and the last 7 days of pills do not contain hormones...so your body is going through a type of "withdrawal" from the hormones for those days. It is kind of confusing, but you can read below about how an actual period works (and keep in mind: the pills you take work by either: preventing ovulation, by preventing uterine lining from becoming thicker, or by preventing a fertilized egg from implanting).

Your comment, "...period just being a withdrawal from hormones cuz it wants to ovulate" is not really true. Bleeding (whether menstrual bleeding or withdrawal bleeding) does not "cause" or "lead to" ovulation; ovulation begins from hormones in your brain signaling to your ovaries that an egg should be released. The egg is released (called ovulation), travels through your fallopian tubes to your uterus, where your uterine lining becomes thicker, suitable for a fertilized egg. Then, a few weeks later if this egg is not fertilized, this thicker uterine lining is shed...which is "menstrual bleeding". And, again, when taking the pill, you do not have this menstrual bleeding, as the pill is working to prevent ovulation and prevents uterine lining from becoming thicker...so there is no shedding of this lining. The bleeding that occurs while taking the pill is withdrawal bleeding from lack of hormones for the week.

Perhaps too much information, but now you know!

Your biggest question, "is it likely that I can be pregnant". Yes, it is a possibility, unfortunately. Your pills are 99% effective at preventing pregnancy when used consistently and correctly every time, and when missing 2 or more pills in-a-row, this effectiveness rate decreases to around 85%. When you miss 2 pills in-a-row, and have unprotected intercourse during the following 7 days, there is a chance for pregnancy.

I'm confused as to what pills you missed; aren't your pills still in the case, so you know what day pill you took vs. missed?

It sounds like you only missed 1 pill, and then doubled-up as soon as you remembered. This is nothing to be concerned about; the pill when taken consistently & correctly is 99% effective (meaning, there is still less than a 1% chance of pregnancy, even when taking the pill "perfectly"!), and missing one pill will likely not effect this efficacy rate. When you miss 2 more more pills in-a-row is when the effectiveness rate decreases significantly.

If for some reason after missing 3 pills, and possibly getting pregnant after my bofriend ejaculated inside me, will taking those missed pills hurt the fetus or cause an abortion? If I am pregnant,I would like to keep the baby.

I have been on the pill for 2 years, and have never really took it on time everyday. I have missed the first 3 pills after my sugar pills. I had sex with my boyfriend, after I got on the internet and calculated my most fertile days. and it was during that time. He did withdraw from me. So what's the chance of me getting pregnant?

Hi, I am a little worried as well. Hopefully someone can help me. Here's my situation. I have been on bc for about 5 years. I was recently switched but after taking the first 3 days I was getting sick and throwing it back up every day. My doctor told me to stop taking them until Sunday and then Sunday start again on the new pack (which was the old bc that I was on). My bf and I got carried away last night (one day after not taking anything and about 9 days after the first day of my last period). We had unprotected sex twice, but both times he pulled out. Today when I woke up I was bleeding like I had my period with cramps and everything. I think my period is here again b/c of not taking the pill, but what are the chances of me getting pregnant?

I have a question...
So my boyfriend and I had sex for the first time and it was a saturday night, (the first saturday of a new pack, and I'm a sunday starter) I took my pill regularly on the friday the day before, but I forgot to take the pill on the saturday and sunday. When I realized this i took both the missing pills on the monday morning, and then continued taking the pills regularly for the rest of my pack. We also used a condom on the Saturday night, but what worries me is that he "stuck it in" on the sunday morning, but we didnt actually finish that round because of the dogs barking outside the door. I have spotted since then, but thats common with me whenever I miss two pills in a row. I've been taking TRI-CYCLEN for over 3 years now. Is there anything I should be worried about?!
