Q:

Is it typical to have an elevated resting heartrate following atrial ablation?

I am seven weeks post ablation for afib. My resting heartrate was 50 - 60 before the procedure. It is now ranging from 78 to 84. This is while still taking beta blocker.

I am 53 and 10 weeks post extensive Heart Ablation. I am seeing my cardiologist today because I had my first Sinus or Atrial Tachycardia episode since surgery. Once I climbed in bed and started relaxing my heart rate shot up to 154 in less than a minute. My "new" resting heart rate has been 99 to 125. I am not on any medications post surgery. I'm not sure if they will have to do another ablation( as they told me is always a possibility). I didn't handle the beta blocker pre surgery very well nor the heart rate medication so, I am hoping I will not have to try them again.

My daughter had an ablation about a week ago. Her heart still goes up to 120 bpm just walking down the hall or on one occasion was 140 bpm after a shower, or just standing it was 104 bpm, is that normal after an ablation? Her resting heart rate is about 80-90 bpm and she is no longer on any medication to try and keep her heart rate down.

Mine was high at first. But, over time ( 5-6 months) came down. I was not on Beta Blockers after the procedure. You may want to talk to your doctor though.
I had 3 ablations and the chances of success goes up every time, so 3rd time was a charm.
I know how scary it is. Still after 3 years, one off heartbeat scares me badly.
Best of luck and prayers for your quick recovery. :)

Not me. No abdominal pains. But, I have had GI issues in the past. And, when I had reflux it was triggering my irregular heart rate. That is why I have been on Nexium for the last 4 years.

I had my RF Ablation on Jan 5 th 2015 at the Univ. of Penn in Philadelphia. My Dr is on of the most experienced in this procedure in the World.
I asked him about the higher RHR (normal was 50-55, I'm an athlete) and he said that it was commonplace and actually he has observed higher long term success rates in staying out of Afib with higher rates. He also said 30-40 mins of Cardio exercise a day is all I need. Excessive cardio indurence exercisers seem to fill a disproportionate amount of chairs in his waiting room.

Five months ago had an ablation and noted that my usual heart rate of
of 60 -64 BPM were averaging 76 to 80 BPM. Did notice that going up a flight of stairs can feel slightly winded. Have not had a fib since and have been off all medication for a month. Can do more exercise without it triggering a fib a few hours later. The ablation done at Mayo used both radio frequency and the gryoblation...so far am feeling good.

I had a cryo/RF ablation done ten weeks ago. My resting heart rate (RHR) was 55-65 pre-ablation and jumped to 90-95 immediately after the ablation. After ten weeks, my RHR is still "all over the place." Typically, it is in the 85-90 range during the day and drops to 75-80 while sleeping. So far, the ablation has stopped my A-Fib and about 80% of my PACs. However, with the higher RHR, I find I can no longer work or exercise as before (get tired, short of breath, fast heart rate, etc.). I am off Xarelto and am weaning myself off beta blockers (bisoprolol). My blood pressure is still normal. I hope my RHR will decrease over time.
