Hi Susan,
I have been on birth control pills since i was 14 yrs old, Im now 20. I have never been late as it as been controlled by the pill. This month I have not received my period. It's now almost a week late. Calculated back to the first day of my last period it is 34 days. I have done 2 HPT's and both were negative. Im very worried as I was not trying to conceive thats why I have been on contraceptives. I have been having some of the early symptoms like the nausea and sore breasts but nothing major. Could i still be pregnant or is this just all in my head?

Hello Anon

Thank you for writing.

I don't like to tell anyone that "it's all in your head" because too many people with legitimate concerns have been told this by so-called professionals - especially women.

While the birth control pill regulates the menstrual cycle, short term problems can cause this to change. Stress, other medications, illness, travel or other factors can change the cycle. Late or missed pills - even ones that are made up, can also be a factor. Has anything gone on in the last month or two to cause any changes?

Since your tests are negative, that's a good thing as it's not likely they are wrong. However, if you don't get your period in the next week, a quick scan at your doctors office can let you know for sure.
If it's negative, your doctor can discuss this further with you.
Best,
Susan
