Osteopenia is generally considered the first step along the road to osteoporosis, a serious condition in which bone density is extremely low and bones are porous and prone to shatter. Since the medical evidence suggests (under review), they are only considering it at this point.
I found this information for you which indicates that Vitamin D is essential for osteopenia. You can read more information about it here http://www.osteopenia3.com/Osteopenia-treatments-Vitamin-D.html.
Physicians usually run bone density tests to identify possible osteoporosis or the beginning of it. Did your Mother have this completed and do you know what the results were?
Please keep us updated. Remember that Vitamin D is very important with bone density issues.January 15, 2011 - 9:43am
