Hello.

As has been stated below, nipple discharge in a woman who's not pregnant or breastfeeding isn't necessarily abnormal. Possible causes can be:
excessive breast stimulation
menstrual cycle hormonal changes
injury or trauma to the breast
abscess

Have her mention it to her doctor to ease her mind.

Hello aarya,

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER.

It would be wise to schedule an appointment with either a gynecologist or your primary care physician for a complete breast examination. Nipple discharge in a woman who's not pregnant or breast-feeding isn't necessarily abnormal, but it should be evaluated by a doctor.

When did you first experience a watery discharge from your breast? Did this occur in both breasts? Is it constant or does it only happen now and then? Are you having any other symptoms, like feel a lump or discomfort?

Nonmilk discharge comes out of your breasts through the same nipple openings that carry milk. The consistency of nipple discharge can vary — it may be thick and sticky or thin and watery.

Possible causes include:
excessive breast stimulation
menstrual cycle hormonal changes
injury or trauma to the breast
abscess

Regards,
Maryann
