I know that the thought of your baby going through surgery can be very scary but what your little boy has is actually not that uncommon in children.
Based on what you've said, it sounds like he has a blocked tear duct. Basically, it's an infection in the lacrimal sac. The infection is typically treated first, then some doctors may try massaging the lacrimal area to remove the obstruction. If that doesn't work or if the doctor wants to prevent it from recurring then they will recommend surgery.
