If it's a minor sprain or until you can see your doctor, ice the area as soon as possible after the injury and continue to ice it for 15 to 20 minutes a few times a day or until swelling improves. If you use ice, be careful not to use it too long, as this could cause tissue damage. Compress the area with an elastic wrap or bandage and elevate your foot if possible. If you don't remember doing anything to cause a sprain, it might be something else. Don't hesitate to get it checked if it worsens.
