Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for coming to us for help.

I am assuming you took an emergency contraceptive after having unprotected sex on September 15.

That was not your period on September 22. That was withdrawal (bleeding between periods) bleeding caused by taking the pill.

It was not necessary to take that pill. The reason is you finished your period on September 15. There was no way you could have ovulated. Ovulation is when one ovary releases an egg. That usually happens about two weeks from the last day of your last period. You need to have a released egg ready to be fertilized by sperm to become pregnant.

Now, because you took the pill, which contains a high dose of a man-made or synthetic hormone that prevents ovulation, your next period could come on time, earlier or later than expected. You will just have to wait and see.

Anonymous, please start using some type of birth control. Emergency contraceptives are NOT intended to be used as birth control. Overusing this pill will actually make it not work in the future, and could cause harm to the balance of hormones that control your menstrual cycle.

Regards,
Maryann

Hello Anonymous,

It has only been two days since the bleeding started. There is nothing you can do. Should the bleeding continue for more than five more day, that is a total of seven days, call your physician.

Maryann

Hello Anonymous,

The bleeding is a side effect of the pill caused by the hormone, specifically progestin, in it.
