Over dosage of Postinor 2

I took both pills in one dosage, is this dangerous or less effective? Also, what are the usual side effects after taking the pills and how soon after? I took the pills about a 17 days ago and now I'm spotting ( not heavy but blood is present). Could this be a side effect?

Hi, I am jane. I took Postinor 2 (both pills simultaneously) 7 days ago. According to the pharmacist, it is not advised to take another set of pills within a month. However, I have been going on consistent unprotective sex. My menstrual period usually starts on 6th or 8th of the month, on the 24th, my partner accidently ejaculated inside of me. My question is, should I take the pills again to prevent pregnancy since the first set of pills are taken a week ago? Thanks for the advice Maryann

Hello Jane,

No, you can seriously upset the hormonal balance that regulates your menstrual cycle. Contact your gynecologist or primary care physician before you take another dose.

Why are you not using birth control regularly? Postinor 2 is intended for emergency use only.

Maryann

I took postinor2 ASAP after the intercourse. It's 9.30 am & missed to get the 2nd pill @ 9.30 pm. I took it 2.55 am . Means after about 6 hours. I'm afraid would it be effective or not. If not what will be the option?

Hello Anonymous,

Try to relax. You took the first pill as directed. Taking the second pill six hours later might have decreased the effectiveness a bit. If the pill was not effective, then you conceived. If you do not have vaginal bleeding within three weeks of taking the pill, test for pregnancy.

Maryann

Hello Anonymous,

Unless you have a very short menstrual cycle, you were not ovulating five days after the finish of your period and not at risk for conceiving.

The brownish spotting was most likely old blood left from your last period and release was triggered by the high dose of synthetic hormone in Postinor 2.

Do not take Postinor 2 again and your body will readjust.

Maryann

I had unprotected sex on 23rd November (he came 3x inside me, i had just started to ovulate on 22nd), and my next period was due on 3rd December. i took postinor 2 pills about 30-40 mins after the last sex on that day, and took the second pill exactly 12 hours later. On 3rd December i had some brownish discharge, and on 5th December when my boyfriend penetrated the discharge came again. but that was it. No blood so far although i am having all the symptoms and very tender breasts. Should i take a pregnancy test or wait? Please help as i am fretting out here.
