Hi community,
I am one of the many ladies who are panicking after taking the morning after pill. Unfortunately I only got to taking the pill about 40 hours after fooling around unprotected (penetration with pre-ejaculation, but nothing more). It has been 8 days since I took it and my period was due to start yesterday, but nothing has happened. I took a pregnancy test and it came back negative. I have symptoms of PMS or pregnancy - can you please please let me know if you took the MAP and experienced something similar? What was the result?
Thank you SO much in advance. I promise to update this when I reach some kind of answer.

Thanks so much - really appreciate the reassurance. When should I start to worry? I.e. how late after my period was supposed to start?

Hello Anonymous,
I would say wait until it is late by at least one week, that is if you are normally regular.

Hello Anonymous,
Welcome to EmpowHER. I am glad you reached out to our community with your concern about a late period and possible pregnancy.
One reported side effect of an emergency contraceptive is a change in the menstrual cycle. The next monthly period can start earlier or later than expected. It is generally a difference of five days.
Menstrual flow can be lighter or heavier than normal.
A rule of thumb is if you have not had any vaginal bleeding within three weeks of taking the pill, test for pregnancy.
Try your best to relax. It is too early to worry.
