Posterior Repair

I had a rectocele repair 5 weeks ago and am still not feeling right. It's still really uncomfortable and gets worse when I walk for more than 10 minutes. It's really hard to explain what it feels like. Sorry - this is so embarrassing - it's like after having sex and also a burning inside the vagina - I don't think there's an infection -and an ache in my rectum. I'm getting frantic - has anyone else had this experience and did it get better?

Thanks Maryann. I saw my GP today - she can't see anything wrong - all looks like it's healing. It's not really pain but great discomfort. There isn't any infection either. I'm hoping it will all settle down soon!

Hello Kittkat,

I would like to welcome you to the EmpowHER community. I am sorry to hear that you are still not feeling quite right and still experiencing pain five weeks following the surgery.

I do not have any personal experience with this type of surgery to repair a rectocele. But, I did do some research to help you.

Kittkat, have you had a postop visit with your surgeon? Were you discharged with a prescription for pain medication?

What I found on the website for the University of Virginia Women's Health Services is that the typical recovery for this procedure is about 2 to 3 weeks. Typically, a patient will need to take pain relieving medication during the first week.

I am concerned that you are continuing to feel pain. I suggest you call your surgeon and report how you are feeling. Better to be examined and get some peace of mind.
