Q:

Pregnancy worries WITHOUT intercourse?

I can't believe I'm asking this but I'm starting to freak out a little bit.
A few days after my period ended, my boyfriend and I were "messing around." He put his bare penis up to my bare vagina and started rubbing before I told him to stop and put on a condom. (I'm not on any other form of birth control right now.) No ejaculation and no penetration, just possible precm on my vagina.
I didn't think anything of it at the time, but now my period is a few days late - I've had some weird light brown spotting with period-esque cramps, but no period. My breasts are tender and look a little bigger to me, and my skin has absolutely exploded with acne (although that is not unusual for me). I'm kind of freaking out.

I am absolutely exhausted, but to be fair, I have been sleeping an average of four hours a night and have a whole lot of stress in my life right now. We haven't even had sex yet because I am undergoing treatment for vaginsmus - penetration and intercourse is too painful for me, something I'm working on with physical therapy.

I took a sensitive early test the day my period should have come, and it was negative, but still no period. A pregnancy would be absolutely devastating, especially without intercourse - I'm not even sure my boyfriend would believe me. :(

I should mention that I recently stopped taking the Pill because it was making me super depressed and physically ill. I was told to expect some cycle weirdness after stopping, but I'd gone through two full cycles and my period seemed perfectly normal.
Am I making myself nuts or is there a real risk here?

Thanks very much for your help.

That's good, Anon.

Many times when we are worried about pregnancy we start noticing Every Little Thing about our bodies, things we ordinarily wouldn't pay attention to. We get hyper-aware of any sensation or twinge or feeling and wonder if it could be caused by a pregnancy -- and that makes us worry more. I bet this is the case with you. Hang in there, try not to stress, and update us when you know something, OK?

Worried:
I hope you found that you're not pregnant.
I'm a little young here so I just have a question or two. Diane, if you could just help me clear some doubts, would semen on skin, then possibly transferred to your vaginal area get you pregnant? I gave a handjob to my boyfriend the other day and we stayed out to talk for a while afterthat before I went home to take a shower. I might have went to the toilet before that and wiped myself off with toiletpaper, and I'm worried I accidentally transferred some of the semen to my vaginal area... My hands were no longer wet with his cum but I didn't wash them before I went to the toilet either and they were still a little sticky. I'm just worried because my period is now over a week late and I'm stressed, but not more than usual I'd think. Also, it's usually pretty regular, so I'm worried as to what this no show might
mean. I hope to see your reply soon, just so I know because I have no idea what's going on right now. Thank you so much.

Hi worried,
From your description, there would be no chance of pregnancy. Sperm are actually very fragile, and only live up to a few minutes outside of the body. The sperm found on your hand would not have survived long enough to have been able to impregnate you by simply wiping after using the toilet.

If you have not had any penis-to-vagina contact, then your period may just be late for other reasons (usually stress). You can take a home pregnancy test if you are worried,or wait another week. Do you have a gynecologist yet? You may want to think about it, since you are sexually active (and, yes...sexually active does not mean "having sex" as much as it means engaging in sexual behaviors).

Let us know if you have any other questions!
