Q:

Pregnancy worries WITHOUT intercourse?

I can't believe I'm asking this but I'm starting to freak out a little bit.
A few days after my period ended, my boyfriend and I were "messing around." He put his bare penis up to my bare vagina and started rubbing before I told him to stop and put on a condom. (I'm not on any other form of birth control right now.) No ejaculation and no penetration, just possible precm on my vagina.
I didn't think anything of it at the time, but now my period is a few days late - I've had some weird light brown spotting with period-esque cramps, but no period. My breasts are tender and look a little bigger to me, and my skin has absolutely exploded with acne (although that is not unusual for me). I'm kind of freaking out.

I am absolutely exhausted, but to be fair, I have been sleeping an average of four hours a night and have a whole lot of stress in my life right now. We haven't even had sex yet because I am undergoing treatment for vaginsmus - penetration and intercourse is too painful for me, something I'm working on with physical therapy.

I took a sensitive early test the day my period should have come, and it was negative, but still no period. A pregnancy would be absolutely devastating, especially without intercourse - I'm not even sure my boyfriend would believe me. :(

I should mention that I recently stopped taking the Pill because it was making me super depressed and physically ill. I was told to expect some cycle weirdness after stopping, but I'd gone through two full cycles and my period seemed perfectly normal.
Am I making myself nuts or is there a real risk here?

Thanks very much for your help.

Hello Anonymous,

Pre ejaculate fluid itself does not contain sperm. If your partner had a prior but recent ejaculation, some sperm could remain in his urethra. The urethra is a tube through which semen and urine pass.
Once he urinates, any sperm is flushed out.

You can relax because I doubt you were at any risk for becoming pregnant.

Maryann

Hello Anonymous,

I apologize for the delay in responding. From what you shared, there was no risk for getting your girlfriend pregnant.

Hello Anonymous,

Pre ejaculate fluid itself does not contain sperm. However, if your boyfriend had a prior but recent ejaculation, some sperm may have remained in his urethra. The urethra is a tube that both semen and urine pass through. But, once he urinated, any remaining sperm was flushed out.

So, there was a very low to no risk for you to become pregnant. But, if you miss your next monthly period, then test.

Maryann

A... similar thing has occurred with me.
My husband is an asexual, but he does other things with me (grinding , fingering, etc) BUT we have NEVER had sex.
anyways, a few weeks ago, he was grinding on me, I was naked and he was in his loose-fitting boxers, and he ejaculated on my vagina, though i am unsure whether it got inside me.
i have gained weight (7 lbs), been nauseas in the mornings, though not all of them in the past two weeks, cramps but no bleeding or spotting, no period since before this event. I also have had headaches.
the reason i am posting this now is because today the nausea faded, then returned while i was working tonight. i experienced a sudden exhaustion, coupled with a feeling of the room spinning, and a headache. it was so sudden and overwhelming i came home early from work.
my question is , could it be possible really for me to be pregnant in these circumstances?

Hello Anonymous,

Pregnancy would not be possible if he did not penetrate your vagina, which is inside of your body, and ejaculate.

I would urge you to schedule an appointment with your primary care physician because of the symptoms you experienced that caused you to leave work early. It could be a virus, but speak with your doctor to be safe.

Thank for everything! I really appreciate it!

Hi Maryann, so I have another question. As I mentioned, I have been having cramps and lower back pain but I suspected that is because my period normally occurs on the second of each month. However, the cramps I have been experiencing aren't like the typical ones that I have before my period. They're normally painful and having them normally signals to me that my period is about to start. Around last week or so I experienced this type of cramping but now today being the 29th, I'm only having light cramps. I'm honestly really worried even though you said I have no risk for pregnancy. I haven't experienced any other onset symptoms of pregnancy like nausea or spotting. I have experienced bloating and headaches though but I typically do before my period. I don't know if where I'm stressing so hard that paranoia is causing my body to respond this way, or if they really are true symptoms. Like I said, there was NO penetration, NO genital contact, and I'm almost positive that he didn't touch his precum before fingering me. Thank you again, please get back to me!

Hello cookie99,

Again, I think anxiety and stress are the cause of your symptoms. You could always schedule an appointment with your gynecologist, if that will make you feel better.

Maryann
