RE a typical leiomyomas
Recently removed fibroid and pathology results show atypical leiomyomas. I
haven't had kids yet. Married for couple years. I'm 30 years old. So scared
of this going into bad cells yet don't want to remove uterus yet. Wanted to
know if there were cases like this and what can I do to cure it. I have
regular checks and everything looks ok so far.

Guide

Hello Anonymous,

I would like to welcome you to the EmpowHER community and reaching out to us for help with your concern.

A leimyomas, commonly referred to as uterine fibroids, are noncancerous growths of the uterus. Often, they appear during childbearing years.

An atypical leimyomas refers to a fibroid that has characteristics that are not typical or atypical. This type of fibroid can alter its shape or size (pleomorphic), has a low rate of cell division, and the tumor will not die on its own without medical intervention.

Based on an article published last year in The International Journal of Gynecologic Pathology, most tumors remained benign (did not become malignant), some women received a myomectomy and others had a hysterectomy. A myomectomy is the surgical removal of the uterine fibroid only.

Your gynecologist is your best resource. Discuss treatment options during your next visit.

Regards,
Maryann
