STD transmissions

Yesterday, my sister showed me bumps under her tongue which I do find awkward. They were very small and wasn't oozing or anything, but I got concerned. I read online that it may be syphilis or herpes. The bumps are gone as of now but she does have a cold like symptoms( Sore throat, runny nose) no fever. If it is syphilis or herpes etc what are the chances of me catching it from drinking behind her and eating behind her? Thanks in advance

Hello Anon

Thank you for writing.

The mouth can be full of little bumps, she could have canker sores, especially if her immune system is low from having a cold. I think you're really jumping the gun by seeing some bumps and then researching herpes or syphilis. Your sister may be coming down with an upper respiratory infection - her doctor can help with that. As for you catching sexually transmitted infections from her - she's your sister, so you won't have any intimate contact with her and you won't be eating or drinking using her utensils (which wouldn't pass anything on anyway).
