Hi,
I just started my next cycle of pills after the 7 day pill free in monday. I was on my fourth day until then i saw my pill packet was already expired for almost 9 mos. Friday i buy a new pack and took the 4 pills to replace the 4 expired pills i took. I had unprotected sex on wednesday. I was so afraid so after taking the 4 pills for replacement I took emergency contraceptive pills. It was 36 hours after my unprotected sex. Im still waiting for my withdrawal bleeding,i already experiencing and cramps and breast tenderness, though my breakthrough bleeding is still not due,it usualy happens on my pill free interval period. What are my chances of pregnancy? Are expired pills already 100% lost its effectiveness? Thanks.

Hi again,

the chances are likely low given your information, but no one can know this with certainty. Try to relax until you can speak with your doctor.

Thank you. Im really worried because ive read articles thay says ovulation may happen during day 8-10 of extended pill period. Would ecp take effect on that matter? I hope really that the expires pills still have a little effectiveness

Hello. Thank you for posting.

Even though the pills you took were expired, they might still have some (limited) effectiveness, your pharmacist would know better. If so, that combined with the new pills plus the ECP is a large dose of hormones in your system in a short period of time. This can cause irregularity in your cycle and you might just have to wait it out until it returns to normal. I would suggest contacting your GYN or pharmacist.
