Q:

Took a pregnancy test during my period, came back negative, could I be pregnant?

It sounds silly, but all this talk about women having their periods while they were pregnant is making me sick. I've been nauseous for a few weeks and a little tired (which I think is probably from school stress?). I went to the college nurse and asked if it was possible to be pregnant; she said no and tested me anyway, which it obviously came back negative. This was at least 10-14 days after any possible "sexual act" happened. But then again, if I was on my period, wouldn't THAT be a tell-tale sign in itself that I'm not pregnant, and a negative test would also bolster the fact that I'm not?

I will be going to the doctor soon, and he'll probably tell me to get a blood test anyway to make sure, but what are the chances of it coming back positive for pregnancy after a period and a negative test? And why would I be feeling so nauseous so often?

Guide

Hi,
You had your period. The pregnancy test was negative. You are not pregnant. There is a zero chance that a repeat hCG test will be positive. Other causes of nausea range from having viral gastroenteritis or the stomach flu to a middle ear infection. If the feeling of nausea persists, mention this during your upcoming doctor's appointment.
Try to relax. It may be time to think about birth control.
