At age 50, most women have either reached menopause, which is marked by not having a period for 12 consecutive months, or are in perimenopause. Perimenopause is the transitional phase characterized by fluctuations in the reproductive hormones. Irregular menstrual cycles or having a period without ovulating are typical.
A 50 year old woman's chances of conceiving without in vitro fertilization is nil.
