Hello Anonymous,
Split hair or split ends is known as trichoptilosis and are caused by a variety of reasons. Identifying the cause of your split ends can help you prevent them.
Excessive use of hot styling tools, such as curling irons, pulling a comb forcefully through tangled hair and repeat combing, excessive application of hair products, such as perms and hair coloring, are thermal, mechanical and chemical stresses that lead to split ends.
Avoiding the above mentioned practices is one way to prevent split ends. Get your hair trimmed on a regular basis. After you have shampooed your hair, lather the ends of your hair a conditioner and let it sit for a few minutes. Use a wide-tooth comb to detangle your hair after a shower.
If you wear your hair in a ponytail, use soft hair ties and avoid tight hair bands, which can easily cause breakage and lead to more split ends.
Hope these suggestions are helpful.
