Q:

What causes dry elbows and knees?

My elbows and knees can get dry in the winter. The skin gets rough and scaly and is hard to clean and soften. I sometimes use skin lotion to soften it up but it never seems to really work. What could be causing this? How can I best treat it. Are there natural, organic treatments for this? How can I prevent it?

Hi Lauren,

Thanks for your question. Pressure applied to the thin skin by your joints can contribute to flaking and dryness of the these two areas of the body.  Using a daily moisturizer can help prevent dryness, especially if you will be doing any outdoors activities. Oils such as coconut oil and almond oil are very effective.

Best,

Daisy
