Where can I find information about the relationship between Yaz/Yasmin and super ventricular tachycardia?

My 24 year old daughter has been on Yaz for a couple of years. In the last six months she has experienced two episodes of severe super ventricular tachycardia. She is in the process of scheduling an electrophysiology study/cardiac ablation. The cardiologist has an excellent reputation. I asked about t Yaz causing this and he does not think it does. Are there any credible studies proving otherwise?

Thank you.

Your daughter's cardiologist is correct. I did some research for you.

Supraventricular tachycardia ( SVT) is a rapid heart rate that is caused by electrical impulses that originate above the heart's ventricles.

Certain medications can cause SVT. These include very high levels of digoxin, theophylline, weight loss medications, cold and allergy medications, and excessive use of medications used to treat certain thyroid problems.

Exercise, fever, stress or being upset may trigger an SVT episode. Smoking, drinking too much alcohol and too much caffeine can trigger an attack.

Hope this helps,

I have SVT and have had it since I was in the 5th grade so way before I started taking Ocella birth control. I've never heard anything suggesting BC causes SVT, just you're usual blood clots, heart attack, weight gain, etc. My SVT is triggered by a combo of too much caffeine (from anything from coffee, tea, soda, etc) high stress and over worked physically. For example it had happened to me in an airport after having strong coffee and running across the place to get to my terminal worried I would miss my plane. Think back to what was going on when the SVT happened and it might make more sense that it's not BC. There is a procedure for correcting SVT so I would talk to your doctor about it since she is still young.
