Q:

Why am I feeling bad after thyroid surgery?

I had my left thyroid removed in December, 2008 because of a nodule. It was benign.
All my TSH levels are in normal range. I take 50mcgs. of Synthroid daily.

I suffer from severe depression. I am on 60 mgs of Cymbalta daily.

I am still feeling miserable. I am extremely tired, even more so since the surgery. I sleep 10+ hours daily and I am STILL tired. I have absolutely NO energy to do anything. Just getting dressed is an effort!

I am in need of some answers as to why I am still feeling so tired. My get up and go has "gone up and went."

Please, please help...I don't know what to do. Any information you provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
Karen

Thinking of suicide? Reach out.. don't wait another second. This is all temporary most likely from an your hormones not being balanced. Please talk to someone including an endocrinologist

Take care of yourself.

Hi I had a partical thyroidectomy May 2012, I feel OK, just somtimes tired. Before the surgery I was on 125 and 137 alternating every other day, I had a begin nodule, now I am on 100mg since my new blooodwork have to go back to Dr in Sept to check my levels again. My question is before surgery they were giving me levothyroxine to supress this nodule and to help the left side of the thyroid work, now that the whole left side is gone, do I still need to take this levothyroxine??????????????????

I had my left thyroid removed on May 1, 2012 and the first four weeks were pure hell. I just knew something was going haywire in my body. I was mostly having panic attacks and couldn't sleep but felt tired all the time. It has now been 7 weeks and panic attacks are gone but still not sleeping great. My thyroid function test came back normal so no medicine for me. The major thing I am concerned about which no one has mentioned is my voice. I am still hoarse a lot of the times. When I went to my doctor he said my vocal chords weren't moving as they should but he didn't seem to concerned and just told me to come back in another six weeks. Has anyone experienced difficulty with their voice after thyroid surgery?

I am having my left thyroid removed on July 15th and I must say that after reading this thread I am now very scared and stressed! I had biopsies which were benign as well as blood work. Everything is fine except that the nodule is growing. I have a 2 year old boy and heaven knows that I'll need all my energy! Just the thought of me not having the energy to keep up with him is making me extremely scared and sad!

Glad I found you .. I had half my thyroid out March 7. Now I am having hot flashes every hour, freezing cold in between, extremely tired but having trouble sleeping and lots of nausea.
My thyroid test was normal two weeks ago but I swear something is going haywire inside me. I am 60 and have ben on thyroid meds for over 20 years, going from 25 mcg up to 112 now. I am getting a huge roll around my gut but not anywhere else.
I am really getting sick of myself lately.
I am also on 60 mg of cymbalta for fibromyalgia and on HRT for hot flashes. The HRT used to work before I had the surgery!

I had the left side of my thyroid and a mass removed in Oct 2011, and due to the pathology results, I had to have the right side removed in Feb. 2012. I am currently waitng for my thyrogen injections so I can start my radioactive iodine treatment. Im a little nervous about this whole process. However, I have felt totally NOT myself since the 1st surgery. I have a 6 month old baby boy and I work a full time job which I drive 1 hr one way too. I am exhausted all the time.. I have absolutly no energy. I feel like I need to take a nap once I get to work just to walk in the building... Will this EVER go away? What is the first steps in getting back to normal. I have never been this "lazy" feeling. Before I found out I was pregnant, I was running 3 times a week, and doing zumba. Now I cant even find the energy to put my running shoes on. HELP!!!!

H,i I had the left side of my thyroid removed after having a nodule found. At this time Im waiting to find out if its benign, while I believe its nothing to worry about and it was just a week ago I am suffering extreme tiredness and feel so cold. Normally Im a fit person who walks and swims yet I cant walk around the block at the moment. I also am not a cold feeling person.
