I'm 51. I don't take any meds. For the past few weeks my feet and lower legs have been going a bit numb if I stand still in one place. Today they are a bit numb and swollen in my legs, ankles, and feet. They are also a bit tingling feeling. I have them elevated but don't what to do next?

Hello Anon

Thank you for writing.

Some causes for leg and ankle swelling may be caused by weight. Excess body mass can decrease blood circulation, causing fluid to build up in the feet, legs, and ankles. Standing or sitting for long periods can also be a cause. When the muscles are inactive, they can't pump body fluids back up toward the heart. The retention of water and blood can cause swelling in the legs. An injury of some sort can cause the foot or ankle to swell as also.
There is also a possibility that there is a heart condition.

Since this has been going on for a few weeks, see your doctor.
Best,
Susan
