Q:

Why does my vagina burn?

I had my period last week and used tampons. My period ended on Sunday morning. I've never had any sensitivities to using tampons, but now my vagina has a stinging sensation. It stings especially when I wipe. What could be the cause of this?

Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER and thank you for reaching out to our community with your concern about vaginal stinging.

It could be caused by dryness following your period or slight irritation from using a tampon. Have you switched brands?

If this continues or worsens, please consult your gynecologist. Burning, stinging, irritation or raw sensation within the vestibular area, which include all the area around the opening of the vagina, can indicate inflammation. The most benign cause is reaction to an irritant, such as soap, tampon, or detergent.

Regards,
Maryann
