Guide

Hi Anon,

Thank you for sharing your question with the EmpowHER community.

Often, discharge from a nipple is nothing to worry about, but it's always a good idea to go get it checked out.

Galactorrhea is a condition where a non-pregnant, non-breastfeeding woman leaks from one or both breasts.

Is the discharge green or yellow in color? Have you ever been pregnant?

It is sometimes milk production caused by squeezing the nipples, sexual arousal or clothing rubbing. Other causes include:

  • Hormonal medications or psychotropic drugs
  • Herbs (Anise, Fennel)
  • Illegal drug use (marijuana)
  • Tumors in the Pituitary gland
  • Hypothyroidism

There is a chance it could be an infection, so making an appointment to have it checked out is important.

I hope this helps.

Be well,

~Gillette
