Hi Anon - While some women get one or two urinary tract infections in their lifetime, others have repeated infections. Most UTIs are due to a bacterial infection, but UTIs can also be sexually transmitted. This type of infection usually does not spread past the urethra. Both partners need to be treated in the case of a sexually transmitted infection.
