My 4 year old daughter has developed a small (3mm) mole on the heal of her left foof. It began as a frectle and grew to this size over the period of approx one year. My GP said it was just ordinary mole as it was smoth, flat with even edges, good colour, no discomfort etc. My worry is that much literature metiones meloanoma as moles are rarely found in this area.
Should I be worried?
Thank you

Dr. Bob Brodell, Professor of Internal Medicine, Dermatology Section of Northeastern Ohio Universities College of Medicine responded to your question. Here's what he had to say:
Normal benign acquired nevi (moles) and congenital nevi (bith mark moles) can enlarge as a body part enlarges. However, if there is any question about the significance of a lesion it is a good idea to see a dermatologist. If he/she has any question about the significance of

Hi Laura, Believe it or not, we had a similar question come up not too long ago about a mole on a toddler. You can find out more information about the post here:

What distinguishes your question, however, is the location of the mole, which after doing some research, seems aligned with what you're saying. (Source: CNN)I have forwarded your question to a dermatologist who can provide a general answer for you. To be on the safe side, you may want to take your daughter in for a skin screening.
