Last year I suffered a nontraumatic femur fracture of my left femur. In July, 2008 I read an article that described femur fractures identical to mine and a possible link to long term use of Fosamax. Since then I have had a bone scan which shows increased activity in my right femur which could very possibly be a stress fracture. I am very worried about the risk of a fracture occurring in my right femur. I would love to communicate with others who have had this experience. I am also interested in learning about how I can protect myself from this happening again.

After my right femur broke into two pieces, I have thrown away my Fosamax.
March 10, 2010 - 3:47pmNow I carry Percocet pain pills with me everwhere. If the other leg breaks, I'm to be given 2 pain pills before 911 is called. I just cannot think about going through that devastating pain again. Now, I'll take my chances with plenty of milk and calcium tablets.

I am 71 years old. I was on Actonel and Fosamax for more than 15 years. After my right femur broke, I am off of Fosamax.
March 26, 2010 - 10:58amMy surgeon studied with a doctor who proved there was a link between Fosamax and femur breaks.
Now I take Calcium with D each morning and evening. Merck is interested in profit....without the pain
associated with the femur breaks.

You need to get off of Fosamax. It stays in your bones for at least a decade. Talk to your doctor and get a nuclear bone scan done. It will show if there is any stress fractures that would definitely be volatile points. If your other femur "lights" up you should have a preventive rodding surgery so it does not snap on you like the other one did. Do this immediately!

Three months ago, my right femur broke into two pieces. I thought it was the result of my tripping on the hearth. Now I am not so sure of that. I have been taking Fosamax weekly for over ten years.
March 9, 2010 - 7:41amBecause of the news reports of Fosamax being associated with femur breaks, I am not worried about my left femur fracturing.

Fosamax is a drug that needs to be taken off the market. Please do your research on the Internet and also go to ABC.com to leave a comment regarding this or tell the story of your loved one. It can be found by searching their web site under Diane Sawyer + Fosamax.

Go to ABC.com. Diane Sawyer did a piece about Fosamax Femur Fractures tonight. You can tell her horrible and painful story there. This is a travesty!

My daughter stood up one Saturday morning and both of her femurs broke. She had been having severe pain in one leg for several weeks. She had taken fosamax for several years.
