The doctor's response was no more than "OOPS. Bad call." I was only 55 when I had my first of many surgeries. Surgery is all that is left for me. The oncologist state the other modes of radiation will probably also not work for me. Don't play around with cancer and remember: with all games of odds- some people end up dead even if it is only a fewer number. They had lives to live too. Don't play a number game and feel safe doing it. There is no guarantee which side of the : you will be on. It is your decision not your doctor's. My mistake was trusting my doctor and now I am dying and I didn't have to be if I had been treated early.

Hi crbp - I'm sorry to read that your doctor waited too long to treat your cancer and that it has spread. It's disappointing to read that you met with an oncologist who said that other forms of treatment may not work for you. I can't tell you what to do, but if I was in such a situation I would seek an opinion from another oncologist and also investigate whether there are any clinical trials that could help.
This link can be used to locate a thyroid cancer specialist: http://www.thyroid-cancer.net/resources/findaspec.php3
The link provides information on clinical trials: http://www.cancer.gov/clinicaltrials
I hope this information is helpful, and wish you more peace in the days ahead. Take care, Pat
