My grandmother had a stroke. My mother was diagnosed with cancer and had a double mastectomy. Of course, the medications we're prescribed as we get older, whether or not we have severe problems, create harsh side effects.
My grandmother stopped taking her daily walks after she started taking statins... Her health started slipping when she stopped her walking. That's when I realized there has to be a healthier way to stay healthy!
Initially, I thought it would be tough: Eating right, exercising and watching my stress levels. After all, I live in LA where stress is a competitive sport and Dodger Dogs are a rite of passage! Then I found a variety of holistic alternatives and ways to change my lifestyle in moderation, allowing me to be healthy and still enjoy life.
Now, my work is all about helping others find healthier ways to stay healthy!

Pat (and everyone)~ A few of my most regular techniques... I try to exercise about 15-20 minutes every day. It's usually a short walk. Any more than that and I won't be consistent. The consistency is what counts. The nice thing about walking is that it's meditative as well. I avoid driving during rush hour. I also get massages, have worked with a hypnotherapist and gotten acupuncture. After my early research into the possibilities, I started The Holistic Chamber of Commerce. Now it's my business to research the alternative options to 'healthcare as usual' and find holistic and green solutions to the personal and environmental stresses that surround us all.

Camille - I used to live in LA and understand what you mean about stress being a competitive sport there. Just getting on the freeways to go somewhere is mind-boggling! Can you share with us some of the specific things you're doing to manage stress and have a healthy lifestyle. I'm sure it would be of benefit to readers, no matter where they live.
