Michelle King Robson, EmpowHER's founder, explains how she treated her insomnia.

Michelle King Robson:
When I first was diagnosed with, you know, insomnia, I was given a medication to take, which is the medication that most women, most people, not only in the United States are given, but around the world. It’s one of the top medications that are prescribed for sleeplessness. And I took this medication and I became addicted to the medication, number one.

After taking it for about six months, I couldn’t do without the medication. I couldn’t sleep without it. So it became this windfall of taking more medication and then of course it was, it lasted for about four hours. So, I would get four hours of great sleep, although I had horrible nightmares as I took this medication, and I didn’t realize all of the side effects that the drug was having on me. I had no idea, but I guess it’s what happens when you become addicted to it. That’s one of the things that happens, and that’s why they carefully say when you see those drugs advertised on television that you are supposed to take it for a short period of time.

In my case, I couldn’t take it for a short period of time because I just, quite frankly, couldn’t sleep. So this was something that was supposedly going to help me.
