Q:

Am I safe or should I take nordette again? Help

Hi.

Me and my boyfriend had unprotected sex last February 20 (a day after my period ended), so I took Nordette as an ECP (4 pills and then 4 pills again exactly after 12 hours) on the 22nd. We had unprotected sex again on the same day so I had another dose on the 25th. I had my bleeding from the 3rd of March up until the 5th, and a little spotting today (6th of March).

According to my period calendar, the estimate days of me being fertile was March 1 to 6. My boyfriend and I had sex again on the 5th (we used a condom) but the condom broke. So we decided to stop. Out of all the sex we had, he never ejaculated inside me.

I was wondering if you could help me with this. I'm really anxious and currently freaking out as I type this.

I am hoping for an immediate response and thank you so much in advance.

Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. I am glad you reached out to our community for help.

An emergency contraceptive should be taken only once in a menstrual cycle. It prevents pregnancy by preventing ovulation. It can cause changes in your menstrual cycle. It should never be taken in consecutive months.

So, do not take another dose. Contact your gynecologist and report what has happened. Follow your physician recommendations.

Without ejaculation, and ending sex once the condom broke, I do not think you were at risk for becoming pregnant on March 5.

Regards,
Maryann
