Hi Linda

Thank you for your question and for joining us on Empowher!

Blood in the urine always needs to be checked out, unless you are having your period and accidentally think that there is blood in your urine - could this be the case?

We have an in-depth page on this very issue and several causes for blood in urine are discussed :

* Injury to the abdomen, pelvis, or internal organs of the urinary tract
* Vigorous exercise (resolves with rest)
* Urinary tract infection
* Cancer of the prostate , kidney , or bladder
* Kidney disease
* Kidney stones
* Bleeding disorders (eg, hemophilia )
* Certain congenital diseases (eg, polycystic kidneys )
* Certain medications

Risk Factors include:

* Smoking
* Medications (eg, certain antibiotics and pain medications)
* Radiation of the pelvis (for cancer treatment)
* Acute or chronic urinary tract infection
* Recent upper respiratory tract infection
* Family history of kidney problems

Please have this issue checked out, Linda. It could be something pretty simple that needs some short-term attention or something that may be a little more serious.

Are you having any other symptoms?

Please check out out page on Hematuria (blood in urine) here :

Please check back with us and give us an update - we look forward to hearing from you and wish you the very best.
