Found some info for you on the topic from the National Health Service. Thought they had the best explanation. Check it out below ....

Pregnancy occurs when a male's sperm burrows into a female egg (fertilisation). The sperm is one of millions that are contained in a man's semen (the liquid produced when a man ejaculates or 'comes'). The egg is released from one of the woman's ovaries (ovulation) between 12-15 days before her next period.

Millions of sperm are also found in the liquid produced by the penis as soon as it is erect (hard). This means that a man doesn't have to ejaculate for pregnancy to occur.

Sperm enter the woman's body through the vagina, before making their way through the cervix and womb to the fallopian tubes where the egg is fertilised.

It is possible for a woman to get pregnant without having sexual intercourse (penetration), if there is a chance of any sperm getting into the vagina ...

However, the chances of you becoming pregnant in this way are very small because sperm can only live for a very short period of time when outside of the human body (a few minutes if left to dry out, or a few hours if wet).

It would also be possible for pregnancy to happen if the man ejaculates close to the entrance of the vagina, or if his erect penis comes into contact with his partner's body near the vagina.

Again, the chances of you getting pregnant in this way are much smaller than if you were to have penetrative sex. However, it's important to be aware that, in some cases, getting pregnant in this way is a possibility.

If you think that sperm could come in contact with the vagina in any way, the best way to avoid pregnancy is to use contraception. Only condoms can provide protection against both pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

If you use a condom it should be put on the penis as soon as it is erect to prevent any sperm from coming into contact with the vagina.

Thanks for your question.

From what you describe, it does not sound like there was a chance for you to get pregnant--there would have to be an opportunity for your boyfriends' sperm (from his ejaculate or pre-ejaculate) to reach your vagina, and you said that both areas were covered with clothes, and no sperm got onto your vagina from any other way (from his fingers touching his sperm, then your vagina).

You mentioned that you are a virgin, and I wanted to tell you that there is a small chance that you can get pregnant without intercourse. If you and your boyfriend make out and any of his ejaculate or pre-ejaculate gets on your vagina, then the sperm could move into the vagina, and if you are fertile, could fertilize an egg. The sperm can get near your vagina either by genital-to-genital contact (rubbing), or by his fingers touching his sperm then touching your vagina. This is such a small chance, but could happen.

Have you looked into getting birth control? Please let us know if you have any more questions!

I would probably ask about birth control. Have you talked to anyone (your mom, dad or doctor) about birth control? There are many options out there and it might be a really good idea to think about, to stay on the safe side.

Also, speaking of safe, pregnancy isn't the only thing you should be worried about. There are really scary sexually transmitted diseases out there, and some forms of birth control (like the pill) will do absolutely nothing to protect you from them. This is important, because it's not just a matter of pregnancy -- it's a matter of life and death.

We're always here for any questions you might have about birth control, STD's, sex, whatever. We've been where you are and would love to help.
