Could I have Vitamin D Deficiency?

I had a bunch of labs drawn and was also tested for Lyme Disease as well as other things. I was diagnosed with Vitamin D deficiency about a month or so ago.

Even though I work night shift, I felt very lethargic all of the time. It wasn't exhaustion from working nights, just not having energy to ever do anything. I was also started on a Vitamin D supplement and have felt a little change.

Although Vitamin D deficiency is very common, I was surprised to find out that I was deficient because I live at the beach so I get plenty of sun, I don't suffer from milk allergies and I don't adhere to a strict vegan diet which makes people more at risk to become deficient.

Hi Anon,

Welcome to EmpowHer and thank you for your question! I am sorry that you are dealing with this issue. While you do not seem to have the common risk factors for vitamin D deficiency, there are several reasons your body can fail to absorb or make vitamin D. These include obesity, advanced age and disorders, such as Crohn’s or celiac disease.

Please consult with your physician about your fatigue. They will help determine whether you should increase your dose of vitamin D, and introduce other options for treatment. If you suspect the accuracy of your blood test results, please ask to be retested.

Does that answer your question? Please check back and let us know how you are doing.

Best Wishes,
