Guide

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER.

First, I will review how you should be taking your birth control pills and what to do if you miss a dose.

Take 1 pill at the same time each day until you finish all of the pills in the pack. When you finish the last pill, start a new package of pills the next day.

Take the pills in the correct order.
Take the pills at the same time each day.
If you have nausea with your pill, try taking the pill with food, after eating, or at bedtime.
Your menstrual period will usually come during the last 7 days of each pill pack, once your body adjusts to the pills.
If you are using a 21-day pack, stop taking pills for 1 week then start your new pack.

Never miss a day of taking your pill.

If you miss a dose:

Take it as soon as you remember and take today's pill at the regular time. The risk of getting pregnant is slight, but you can use a second method of birth control just to be sure.

If you miss two pills in a row, take two pills as soon as you remember and two again the next day. You may have some spotting. It is recommended that you use a second method of birth control along with the pills until your next period.

If you miss three or more pills in a row, take two pills a day for three days. It is strongly advised that you also use a second method of birth control until your next period.

OR
Stop taking the pills from your old pack of pills.

Start a new pack of pills the next Sunday (even if you are bleeding). Use a second method of birth control while you are off pills and for the first two weeks that you are on your new pack.

Now regarding the possibility of being pregnant. You can take an early response pregnancy test as early as tomorrow morning. Test using the urine when you wake up. It is concentrated and will give you the best result. Or, you can wait until your period is late by at least one week, and test any time after that.

Regards,
Maryann
