Q:

I don't understand my periods

I'm 25 and have had irregular periods for some time. Over the past 6 months I struggled badly with anxiety and panic attacks and apparently this could have contributed. This has now improved massively. For a while I was having 2 periods most months, sometimes the odd bleed in between, and now this month..no period! I've done numerous pregnancy tests, I'm not overly sexually active with my partner due to him working away, and im on contraception that I take at the same time every day without fail.

I know I should probably go to a doctor but I'm self employed and quite literally find it very hard to make the time, any ideas?!

Hello Anonymous,

Welcome to EmpowHER. Thank you for reaching out to our community for reasons for your irregular menstrual cycles.

Are you taking an oral contraceptive? What brand? I am confused that you would l have irregular menstrual cycles while taking a daily oral contraceptive.

If you have a 21-tablet packet, take 1 tablet daily for 21 days and then none for 7 days. You will should experience withdrawal bleeding similar to a menstrual period while you are taking the inactive tablets or the low dose estrogen tablets or during the week that you do not take your oral contraceptive.

Anonymous, I can appreciate how hard it must be to find the time to schedule an appointment with your gynecologist. But, we are talking about your health and I think you really need to discuss this problem with your doctor.

Regards,
Maryann
